Meet The Underdogs!

Rosie (puppy) 9 weeks old, 5Lbs, lab mix. We were too late for her brother who succumbed to his hunger but luckily Rosie was able to be saved. She is in a foster home with cats and gets along with dogs.

Harper is a 2-3 year old hound mix available for adoption soon. We are accepting applications for her. Harper is dog friendly but not tested with cats. 

Does everyone remember this skinny guy from Frank that was running around? 🐾

We were finally able to get him and have him checked out by the vet. He tested positive for tick-borne Lyme Disease and had a soft tissue infection in his paw, but otherwise he’s in good health! 

The best part? A wonderful family had already been waiting to give him a home, and they scooped him up as soon as we got back from the vet. He’s already looking so much better, learning his leash manners, and has a neuter appointment coming up soon.

Magenta and Lavender are 14 week old sisters looking for separate homes. They’re expected to be about 60 Lbs when full grown. Although skinny now, they’re well socialized and incredibly sweet.

Indigo is expected to be no more than 60lbs. She is 14 weeks old.

I’m so thankful for Scooter’s Underdogs. My human passed away, and I was alone for quite some time before being found. It was a really scary time for me.

Guess what? The girls told me they had a rescue partner who could find me a new family! I’m not very old and have so much life left. They said things will get better from here, I want to believe them. My little world has been flipped upside down. The girls told me my eyes tell stories and they are so happy to help me!”

These two were taken from their mom way too young, and given away, due to their excessive barking. We learned they were barking because they were hungry. These are on a medical hold due to their age.

Boomerang was dumped with his chain still attached. It took a week to gain his confidence, but he was finally brought to the rescue.

When Dobby the beagle was found a few weeks ago locked in a shed, first photo, it was originally suspected he was dead.

Remarkably, he was alive and suffering from heat exhaustion and a horrible flea problem. 

Dobby was transferred and has been adopted into a loving home who won’t forget about him, who won’t forget to love him, and who provides him a comfortable place to rest with fresh flowing air. 

Second photo is Dobby being very happy he got a Scooter’s bed instead of tools/metal/jumper cables/misc. Last photo is Dobby in his forever home!

This is Mabel. We got her from a situation here in Avery where her fleas were horrific, additionally she was only skin and bones. Ever met a skinny English Bulldog? Think of how skinny they have to get for every rib to show. Her skin was just fleas, we have never seen anything like her flea infestation. Due to the neglect and starvation, Mabel was a fragile medical case and we transferred her off the mountain to get the fastest help for her. 

Tilley Tess was found stray and never claimed. She is pending adoption.

Cookie is on a medical hold but available to meet! He is a 3 year old Great Pyrenees mix who weighs 60Lbs. Cookie loves other dogs and lived with a Yorkie and German Shepherd. He was hit by a car resulting in a hip dislocation. Now his hip is “relocated” and he relies on crate rest to heal.

Clementine was found (over and over) at the dump, she got to Scooter’s after it was thought she was hit by a car since she was napping by the highway, and covered in red. When the finder got to Scooter’s, we saw it was red paint and the girl was just exhausted. 4 years old and dog friendly. Once locating the owner they said they couldn’t keep her. Sounds like an Underdog to us!

Also known as “Old June” was found stray and overall in really rough condition, including a really painful paw injury paired with EXTREME hunger. Old June might be old but she doesn’t show it! We love her! 

Oh, Clover.

Her story is a tough one to find words for. She wouldn’t hunt, was sent to be trained to hunt- that didn’t work. Whatever happened to her while she was in “training”- again, hard to find words. Our flinchy scared Clover girl is nervous of everything but as long as she has a confident human with her, she is learning life is no longer scary, loud or painful.

Forge was found (dumped) in horrific condition. It seems this guy had never had a full belly in his life. When he was found he appeared to have no muscle mass at all, and his emaciated body did not line up with the age of his teeth. For a dog starved as long as Forge, putting weight and muscle back on them is a very patient process. We believe he is part boxer. It’s unclear if Forge is flinchy from abuse or from being unsocialized. Forge is in a foster home learning confidence and enjoying food!

Little Sister is dog friendly, housebroken and 1 year old. She is spayed and up to date on vaccines! Sister was hit by a car and the injury was left untreated resulting in the loss of her leg. 

Prince is a 16 week old mixed breed puppy currently thriving in his foster home with other dogs and cats. Prince is available for adoption! An application must be submitted and approved before a meet-n-greet can be scheduled.

Molly is a 16 week old mixed breed puppy with short legs. She loves other dogs and is great at using her potty pads. Molly is available for adoption! An application must be submitted and approved before a meet-n-greet can be scheduled.

Rocket is a 7 week old female kitten looking for a forever home. 

Rocket likes to be carried around the world by 5 year olds and she’s so snuggly and playful. Rocket would do well with another cat or dog to play with, she would also do well alone because she doesn’t mind to nap by herself.

Candy was found in the middle of Newland all by herself. She is a tiny 5 pound clingy little love! We believe she is around 8 years old.

Peaches was found and brought in until we hopefully locate her owners.
